Good Morning, i hope you have had a nice weekend; This morning, the nation is turning because in two days the president will either appear or will decline to appear at the ICC, this either way it goes will be a turning point for the nation and the international justice system. the critical impact on the nation will first the questioning of the international justice system. You and I know there are a number of states where atrocities are being committed against humanity and comparably Kenya has largely done what civilized societies do. Those who are old enough to that once it was a crime read treason to imagine that a president would die, then it was illegal to assemble more than three individual without a permit, to where you can throw a shoe at a president, you can cane a former head of state, appointment by the president can be rendered unconstitutional. To me these are gains that we have made that makes us wonder why cant the international criminal court go for Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa (remember the massacre of the miners), Somalia (al shabab), Afghanistan (al Qaeda). Getting a president of a civilized country like Kenya is a mockery of justice, trying a presidency that even obey court orders from junior courts locally smack of fiction. However, it is also important for the country to reflect and see, has it been impossible for some families to face justice owing to their wealth and connection, could be divine justice at work, may be it is God holding mighty to account for the poverty experienced in this country. when statistics like 40% of Kenyans live below poverty line i.e. in real terms 17,600,000 people cannot afford food is mind boggling. As the president address parliament my expectation are as follows: 1) address inequality caused by inequitable access to productive assets like land, capital and human resource development (acquisition of skills) for gainful employment - this the president must hold the bull by the horn and create a land policy that ensures access to land is a social and well as economic right, and no one should hold an extra acre while those who want to use it as productive asset has none. 2) de-commercialize sub-sectors that facilitate human survival like education, health, food, transport, security and housing. 3) develop a framework where capital access from the economy is made easier through graduated system of evaluating credit access i.e. those seeking to develop enterprises that would employ get credit at 2% while those seeking credit for consumption get credit for 40% 4) facilitate devolution through capacity enhancement to the county government, this will ensure the country is growing steadily across all corners. 5) implement the TJRC report to ensure the perceived social and economic injustices are corrected, even an apology sometimes suffices and people will start accepting one another. 6) we also need to abolish the doctrine of universal suffrage where we vote through a collegiate system to ensure issues are well interrogated and not addressed through communal considerations and sectarian interests. i strongly believe that the 2007 PEV was as a result of some of the few things have articulated from my own perspective. Have a fruitful week.
