Good Morning my fellow Malawians! This page will be giving you a Malawian History extract with its applicable lesson to the current Malawi Status everyday. And here we go. People intending to go abroad-generally to seek work in Rhodesia-had to get a pass from BOMA (ie) Mzimba , this started in 1894. But at the Natives meeting in 1926, people complained that instead of getting the passes (now passport) for free of charge, they were compelled to work for some hours for the colonial government before the desired passes were granted. This was infact to keep them busy whilst their passes were being processed otherwise they could sit outside the office chattering and became a nuisance. LESSON TODAY: Any form of centralized government experiences difficulty of maintaining effective control over its agents who operate away from the centre. But at the same time efficiency is fullfilled even though the government organs may not be too strict as to whether they are acting within the bounds of ligality. This is the case with our immigration Dept, Road Traffic Directorate and many others.
