Good News for Western Cape Social & Economic Development Forum members as we have engage recently with Absa insurance and Santam Insurance with positive results. The campaign is evidence based and has the support of black SMMEs throughout the country. In our discussions with Absa and Santam it was agreed that drastic intervention was needed urgently in order to address the economic discrimination against back SMMEs in the insurance industry. We are having a host of emergency workshop sessions per sector with each Insurance house, their management teams and procurement specialists. This will result in direct commitments from both these insurance houses to open up tender and RFP processes so that more black SMMEs are awarded tenders, included on the panel systems who adjudicate tenders and more non panel tenders are awarded to black SMMEs with immediate effect. We will keep you posted with updates as the talks progress. We are also talking to Hollard Insurance, Mutual and Federal , Telesure and Outsurance around black SMME procurement discrimination in their industry.
