Good Sunday morning! I sure hope your weekend is going strong and if you have enjoyed the type of weather that we had on Friday and yesterday...well...more of that type of weather is on its way this week! If you like the sunny, hot and breezy weather....we have you covered as well over the next 7 days! Many of us in the central and southern TX Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico are waking up to low clouds, drizzle and fog. This should stay with us until around 9-10am before lifting giving us plenty of sunshine for the rest of the day today and warmer high temperatures in the 70s throughout the area and closer to 80 degrees in the OK Panhandle where there wont be any low clouds or fog this morning. Winds are light and variable right now, but will blow from the south and southwest today at speeds averaging 5-15 mph. Enjoy it...it will be the lightest winds that we will see this week! Winds will increase a little tonight to the 10-20 mph range from the south and southwest and this will help keep our overnight low temperatures in the 60s to the lower 70s by sunrise tomorrow as we are getting the kids ready for school and ourselves, ready to go back to work. Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy tonight as well. Tomorrow and Tuesdays weather can be summed up with three words...hot, dry and windy! Monday wont be as windy as Tuesday, but it will be breezy as southwesterly winds at 15-25 mph with some gusts upward of 35-40 mph possible occur helping push our afternoon highs into the upper 80s to the lower 90s by late day tomorrow. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy as well. Tuesday will be even windier with southwesterly winds at 20-30 mph with some gusts upward of 40-50 mph! These strong winds will occur as another strong cold front begins to head our way! Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy and it will be hot with highs in the upper 80s to the mid 90s again when we are heading home from work and the kids, home from school late Tuesday. Wednesday is the start of the changes in our weather and depending on which computer model you prefer, it either gets cold slowly...or quickly on Wednesday. If you look at the GFS (Global Forecasting System) and the European Computer Models Deterministic Data, you will see that the European cools temperatures off slowly on Wednesday..a little more on Thursday...then WHAM! on Friday! The GFS cools things off a little on Wednesday with a more dramatic cool-down on Thursday and remaining cool on Friday. The Canadian is right in-between these two and has the really cold air showing up Thursday afternoon. So, what we will do is use a compromise approach right now and lean toward what the Canadian Computer Model is saying....By the way, when reading these Deterministic Model Data the dates and times are given in Greenwich Mean Time...or what is commonly called Zulu Time. We are 7 hours behind Greenwich, England...so, when you see 11/00, that is the forecast high temperature for September 11, at 00Z, (which is 7pm CDT on September 10 here.) Hope that helps you understand how these are read! What does that all mean? Well, Wednesday will be a cooler day with winds shifting to the north at 10-20 mph and high temperatures dropping into the upper 70s over the OK Panhandle to the upper 80s over the southeastern TX Panhandle. What about rain chances? Well, the European stays dry...so does the Canadian model. The GFS is just a little wet with a few t-storms in the afternoon hours. I would lean to at least, having a few, isolated afternoon t-storms on Wednesday with the front in the area and according to the models...some remnant moisture around from dissipated Hurricane Norbert from the Pacific. Thursday will be an interesting day and again, its all in the timing of when this really cold, fall-like air shows up. I am going to go with it showing up Thursday afternoon in a BIG way...so that means that we will start the day with partly cloudy skies, then end it with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies, strong northeast and north winds at 20-30 mph with higher gusts (making it feel even colder) and scattered showers and perhaps, a few t-storms! Temperatures will reach a high in the 70s...then drop quickly back into the 50s and 60s as the cold air rushes in Thursday afternoon. Friday looks to be cold and wet! Now, if you going to be playing, or watching a Friday night high school football game, the good news is that the rain should be out of here by the time the games get kicked off....but it will be COLD! (Well, at least COLD compared to the highs in the 80s and 90s that we will see Monday and Tuesday!) In fact, the European as a HIGH temperature on Friday of 50...50! You can also see the GOOD rain chances that the European Model is showing for Friday morning! That big blob of rain is forecast to drop around an inch of rain in Amarillo! The GFS is warmer...because by then, the coldest air has already pushed through...and has a high of 68. The Canadian is showing a high Friday around 60. Regardless, you get the idea. It should be cloudy and wet during the day with clearing skies in the afternoon hours leading to a partly cloudy and chilly Friday night with lows in the 40s! The strong morning winds will also decrease Friday evening to the 10-20 mph range...making for wind chills in the 30s! Saturday will be a rebound day with highs warming up...under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies...back to the upper 60s to the mid 70s. Winds will gradually swing around from the northeast at 5-15 mph in the morning to the south at 10-20 mph in the afternoon. Next Sunday will be even warmer and slightly windier as well as southerly and southwesterly winds at 15-25 mph with some higher gusts possible push our highs into the 70s to around 80 degrees under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. By the way...the European is advertising another WHOPPER of a cold front by next Monday/Tuesday with....are you ready for this? High temperatures in the upper 40s! Fall, here we come! Thats a look at this Sunday mornings weather. I sure hope that you drive carefully in this fog this morning on the way to work and/or church and that you are able to watch Daybreak tomorrow morning! Ill be there (after drinking plenty of coffee to wake me up) at 4:30am. Not up that early? No problem! Ill see you when you wake up tomorrow morning!
