Good TGI Friday morning! Whew...what a night! If you remember - TopicsExpress

Good TGI Friday morning! Whew...what a night! If you remember yesterdays forecast discussion, I talked about a corridor of heavy rainfall that some computer models showed 1-3 of rain around the Canadian River....well, that appears to have occurred overnight! Our SchoolNet sites at Guymon (2.25), Bar Z/XI Ranch (20 S Perryton - 2.04), Camp MK Brown (2.00), Old Mobeetie Museum (1.94), Miami (1.75) and the Salty Dog Water Disposal Site (1.74) all got dumped upon! Here in Amarillo and Canyon? Not so much with all of our sites .10 or less. Bushland had a little more at .20. We could see additional, light amounts of rain today with .20 or less....with many locations getting just a few hundredths of an inch as drier air surges into the area on northerly winds at 15-25 mph with some gusts upward of 35-40 mph likely. We may have a few breaks in the cloud cover this morning, but more cloud cover will show up and it will be a cloudy, cold and breezy day with temperatures FALLING throughout the day...NOT rising! By 5pm, we will see temperatures in the 40s and 50s and wind chill values will dip into the 30s and 40s by then! The HRRR (High Resolution Rapid Refresh Computer Model) and the NAM (North American Model) shows the expected radar screens by 3-7pm CDT. The cold front will kick off t-storms over central and northeast TX and into Oklahoma and Arkansas, but notice that theres not much going on around here. The KVII Computer Model agrees with this scenario. The Canadian Computer model also shows most, if not all of the rain to our east and southeast and just a few, isolated showers around here. The Friday night high school football games should be dry, but cold! Kickoff temperatures around 45-50 degrees will stay the same by the 4th quarter....but be sure and tack on a north wind at 10-20 mph causing wind chills in the 30s! Take those blankets, coats, parkas and other stuff to keep you warm! We will see some patchy fog and plenty of cloud cover tomorrow to start off the weekend. The good news is that by the afternoon hours, our skies will start clearing out and we can expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies by the afternoon with high temperatures mainly in the 60s. Winds will blow from the north at 5-15 mph in the morning, then shift to the southeast at 5-15 mph in the afternoon hours. Sunday will be a polar opposite of what we are expecting tomorrow! We will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and high temperatures rising into the 80s! The winds will increase rapidly, especially by the afternoon hours, as another, powerful upper-level storm system heads our way! Southerly winds at 5-15 mph in the morning, then increasing to the 15-25 mph average range with some higher gusts upward of 35-40 mph possible in the afternoon hours. Get ready for BIG changes late Sunday night and early Monday with an upper-level storm system blasting through the area...literally! Winds will shift around to the north and increase to the WINDY category at 20-30 mph with some gusts to 40-50 mph possible as well! The European and GFS (Global Forecast System) computer models are showing what they believe is a scattering of light rainshowers behind the strong cold front. Dont expect much rain out of this (.10 or less) and it will be in and out of here quickly! In fact, by noon on Monday, our skies should be cleared out, but the strong winds will continue and our high temps will only rise into the 60s. After a cold morning on Tuesday with lows in the 30s and 40s, we will warm back up into the 70s under mostly sunny skies. Another warm day on Wednesday will cause high temperatures to rise back into the 80s with light winds at 5-15 mph from the west in the morning, then the south in the afternoon hours. Another weak cold front will blow through early Thursday, but this front is so weak that we can only expect a 3-6 degree temperature drop on Thursday with highs around 80s degrees...to the upper 70s on TGI Friday. No rain and very little in the way of cloud cover is expected. So, thats a look at your TGI Friday morning weather! Take care, have a great weekend and Ill see you again tomorrow morning around 6am with another forecast discussion at that time!
