Good Thursday Morning! Changing the World or Just Changing the Words? Last week I met with a friend of mine who happens to be Jewish. Well, for those of you who might be wondering why most of my friends happen to be Jewish, take a look at the demographics of South Florida ----- Outside of Israel, New York City and Los Angeles (only slightly more), you have the relatively “tiny” area of Fort Lauderdale/Miami Dade. This happens to be my “neighborhood” and I happen to enjoy my neighbors. So, back to my discussion with my friend..... I asked him about the killing of the Rabbi in North Miami and whether or not it was a “hate crime”. He looked visibly shaken and said “It was definitely NOT a hate crime, it was a robbery.” I then said to him “What did they steal?” . I heard the chirping of crickets. It was a “robbery” even if he did not know the items taken. I pressed on and asked about a synagogue that was vandalized this morning and anti-Semitic things yelled at kids when they walk down the street here. “Pranks” by local kids who dont know any better. “ he replied. Nothing to see here, he changed the subject. As a group, American Jews have been very active in fighting prejudice and discrimination, and have historically been active participants in civil rightsmovements. In the mid-20th century, American Jews were among the most active participants and supporters of the black civil rights movement. Contemporaneously,Betty Friedan wrote her 1963 book The Feminine Mystique, which is sometimes credited with sparking the second wave of feminism, and was the first of many prominent American Jewish feminists which extended into the feminist third wave. American Jews have also since its founding been largely supportive of and active figures in the struggle for gay rights in America. Wikipedia Perhaps this is why they cant believe that they can possibly be victims of prejudice themselves. Why they cant believe that they cant believe that they can be targets of the very people that they have been trying to “help”. A series of unprovoked attacks on Jews in New York City could be part of a disturbing new game among inner-city youths called the “Knockout” game or “Get the Jew.”One Jewish man in Brooklyn told CBS New York that his 12-year-old son was attacked last Wednesday because he was dressed in traditional Jewish clothing. How much “fun” can a group of people tolerate in the name of “keeping peace”? Peace is not preserved when a child or an elderly woman hits his/her head and dies as a result of these “merry pranksters”. No “hate crime” is ever committed against a white anglo-saxon person in America. When a Black mob of men attack a white couple, it is not a hate crime.... even if they yell racial epithets. After these crimes, occur, and there have been more than one, the police department, even before investigations are complete tend to move quickly to declare “This is not a hate crime”. The victims, Meredith J. Cole, 19, and Alex J. Vessey, 23, suffered serious injuries after they were assaulted by six black males, according to the police department. The incident took place at 12:18 a.m. on Aug. 22nd. Cole said the attack happened after the males acted disrespectful toward her in a downtown club, she and her boyfriend tried to get a better look at them outside — in order to alert police — the couple walked away, and the male attackers came up behind them and beat them. The attackers appear focused on the male victim, hitting him from behind and kicking at his head and punching him as he fights back. The woman is also hit and thrown to the ground as she turns and tries to help the man. The next attack took place at a Kroger in Memphis, Tennessee located near Highland Street and Poplar Avenue late Saturday night, September 6. A group of black teenagers chanting ‘fam mob’ descending upon innocent white shoppers and workers at the Kroger, attacking them, kicking, hitting, pushing, throwing pumpkins, and rendering them unconscious. Two of the victims were store employees, ages 17 and 18. The third victim was a 25 year old who was shopping at Kroger. The mob of black teens can be seen and heard laughing and cheering as they attack their white victims. A bystander, who could be heard laughing as well until she realized the extent of the injuries of the victims. In a police statement “Last night’s events clearly demonstrates a lack of parental controls and if warranted these parents will also be held accountable.” Oh, the lads and the lassies are just “misguided youths” ….Mom and Dad just need to get them involved in other pursuits. Maybe a softball league or basketball.... perhaps a few art classes. Similarly, when the 3 “bored” young lads shot an exchange student in the back last year, we were to feel sorry for them because they were of “unfortunate” circumstances. It was declared “not a hate crime” and the case is now being tried in secret. So back to the situation regarding the murdered Rabbi. His daughter said “ “We are going to dispel the darkness and bring in light and grow from it,”. I am now going to say this: Unless ALL are held accountable EQUALLY, light will NEVER be shed on this problem. Denial will just encourage these bad situations to continue. In addition, the people involved will become to feel ENTITLED to hurt you, or your children, or your parents, or your friends. Never let anyone make you cower in a lie. It does not matter if they call you names, it does not matter if they get all of their friends to call you names.
