Good afternoon Ottawa Village. I thought it was time to ask a question regarding GLBT literature. There has been a significant decrease of almost 68% in GLBT book sales in the last 15 months and not only at After Stonewall. Gay literature sales have dropped 55% over the last 15 months and Lesbian literature sales 80%. There has been little interest in the Out with the Old In with the New book sale we have done since last October in order to bring new books into After Stonewall for its readers. Is there a need for such a bookstore in Ottawa after being in business 24 years? Do people prefer reading on a kindle vs holding a book in their hand. Have people stopped reading? Are people interested in attending book launches by Ontario authors? I am fighting to keeping GLBT literature alive at After Stonewall, reason I bought the business back in December 2012, as well being a book reader myself. I could not see another bookstore close in Canada. Before making a shift this summer in the business I would love feedback from the community. I will continue with the literature as long as there is a demand for it. It will not completely disappear in 2014 but will scale back this summer if it continues the way it has unfortunately. After Stonewall still carries 90% of the same amount of GLBT literature as previously years, even though it looks like less. There is one or two copies of each book on display instead of multiple. Handmade glassware, pottery, woodwork, jewellery, fine art, etc., by Ontario and Quebec artists were added in in January 2013 in order to keep After Stonewall alive. This part of the business is doing exceptionally well. I personally love After Stonewall and being part of the Gay village. It is wonderful being back in Ottawa after 20 years. Has GLBT bookstores run their course? Is there a need for such a place? Are you an After Stonewall client? What are your thoughts? https://facebook/AfterStonewall
