Good afternoon Vikings.:-) Today the groups management have considered a concept which we think might be exciting for the groups members to be a part of, and to also learn from. It is no secret the Viking Warriors were excellent smiths who forged their swords, their axes, and anything else they might need for battle. Brilliant boat builders, they carved the beautiful prows of their ships, and moulded the timbers to construct them. This is all well documented in the academic literature. Further the finely forged metal, jewellery in the form of arm bands, and talismans was indeed very beautiful,. This we have learned from the Archaeological Digs, found in the boat burials, and Viking graves, from the items which were placed, with the deceased person. I actually own a great many of some these replicas, which I have purchased from professional craftsman from these Viking settled Countries. Many of them with the typical designs of entwined animals. All have the original date engraved on them Today many fine craftsmen are replicating these Viking treasures. So, with this in mind we have decided to invite the craftsman of today to join our group and display some of their work. There will of course be some strict rules which we will ask, they follow. 1. The work must be their own; 2. We will only accept Viking Designs. and nothing else 3. They will be required to tell how the object was made and from what, for example gold, silver, metal, glass for beading, animal bones etc 4 We will ask they relate to us how, and describe what the item meant to the Viking and how it was used, and for what. This will not be negotiable. 5. Items might be, swords, axes knives, drinking horns, rune stones, arm bands..... This list is not conclusive, and could be extended. 5. We WILL NOT accept any advertising, price, or links, however we are working on a way that we may do that, in the future. This idea has not yet resolved, but I am confident it can and will happen a little later perhaps in the new year, following relevant discussions. For now should a member wish to purchase an item seen here this will be facilitated via Private Messaging between the member and the craftsmen DISCLAIMER The Group Owners or Administrators will NOT be responsible for dissatisfaction. Nor will we enter into any private discussions or dealings Morten and myself, along with our two other Admins Angutivik-Casper Rúnur Tausen Hansen and Þorgeir Arnórsson are hopeful this new venture might be exciting and interesting for you our members and successful for prospective Craftsman, to be part of. Thank you. Heather:-)
