Good afternoon, While reading this article I couldnt help but think about Paul Lawrence Dunbar- Life. A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in, A minute to smile and an hour to weep in, A pint of joy to a peck go trouble, And never a laugh but the moans come double , And that is life! The Eternal Pessimist. Is he suggesting that we disconnect the power to the second engine that helps fuel our economy? I sure hope not. While I share his view that we are unlikely to see a 200-300 million dollar hotel constructed in Bermuda, there are several options for hotel development. Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario has a group of small Boutique Hotels, supported by Bed and Breakfast units. Maybe we should reconsider our hotel model.With the assistance of Bermuda Accommodations Inc., thousands of visitors are coming to Bermuda year after year. It sounds great on paper to present a story that a new large hotel will employ 300-500 Bermudian construction workers. If the developer cannot raise the financing, then the same construction job will actually employ Zero construction workers. Thinking outside the box, several smaller ( Bermudian Owned & Funded Guest units) could collectively employ hundreds in the construction industry. Let us consider changing our hotel model before we throw out the baby with the bath water.
