Today, we share from yesterday’s interactive session titled, ‘Hearing from God. We’ll begin with Pastor Idris Belo-Osagie. Pastor Idris Belo-Osagie spoke briefly on his salvation experience. For him, HE stated points on how God reveals Himself to Him. a. Knowing by divine revelation. He explained that sometimes, the Lord speaks to Him by showing Him events or things to come. b. God reveals Himself through scripture: He stated that scriptures he may have read in his quiet times are dropped in his spirit in his time of need. These scriptures often serves as an instruction, correction or motivation to carry out a task (Romans 8:28 ; 14). It is the word that you know that is used to transform your life and restore your character. c. Godly counsel (Hebrews 5:14). Sometimes, God will use and place mentors, guardians, parents etc in our lives to share words of wisdom with us. Sometimes, these words of wisdom may be easily understood and at other times we need to grow to understand some things. In our lives, God wants to drop thoughts and ideas in your spirit but ultimately you will have to build yourself in the word. In addition, the way God speaks to one person is different from the way He speaks to another. God speaks in pictures to some people. We continued with Pastor Joy Isa. Pastor Joy Isa explained that we need to honour God in every aspect of our lives. For example, you cannot be a church worker claiming to be holier than thou but when you get home be rude or keep malice with your spouse. It doesn’t work that way. For Pastor Joy Isa, she explained that God talks to her about important situations in prayer and at times by making her spirit a little unsettled . This clear unease is clearly God as questions arise and instant solutions are provided e.g by interceding for a family member. Colossians 3:15 For Pastor Emmanuel Olajitan, the way he hears from God is when he is restless about a situation. As he probes deeper into this restlessness, he arrives at the answers through revelation and scripture (John 14:26;15:26). He explained that God will always show you what you need to learn however you can only hear from God if you know His voice and that here is a developmental process in knowing God (Acts 27:10; Habakkuk 2:1). In addition, God speaks to us through dreams. Pastor Godman Akinlabi pointed out that God is usually clear when He is speaking through a dream. However, he explained that understanding what a dream means can be difficult for some people. He also stated that when a dream is from God, He will cause you to remember it and when you dont remember He will bring it back to your consciousness. Pastor Bola Akinlabi also said that fasting clears all the static in your mind. The more frequent the fast, the clearer the signal. God really wants us to meek and have a simple heart. These are key elements that make Him speak to you (Psalm 25:9). Pastor Godman Akinlabi stated that humility will take you places and make you follow through to obedience. He added that humility will build consecration (reckless abandonment to the will of God). Sometimes, when we don’t hear from God, we need to question our motive and be obedient to God’s will – no matter what His will may be (Colossians 3:16). By deciding to obey God’s word, follow and study the scripture and walk with the Holy Spirit on a daily basis, we can be sure to be on a constant path of hearing from God.
