Good evening all. I am just doing an update to the issue of the seaweed belt traveling up the eastern seaboard from the New England States and the garbage it has left behind on our beach here in Chance Harbour NB which is my backyard. I have been working tirelessly and pulling very late hours into the night getting off emails, with pictures, on my pathetic dialup internet. We are early risers in this house and usually are up to greet the sunrise and early to bed to be able to do so. The last two nights I have not gotten off the computer until 2:00am. I am tired. The day time hours have been spent calling every single line of both federal and provincial governments about this issue of the seaweed belt and also to see if we could get some help in clearing up the garbage before our tides start to rise again and carry it all back out into the Bay of Fundy. That is what this issue is all about for me. It is all about prevention. The ton of seaweed, although unsightly, isnt a problem. A natural substance which the tides will eventually take care of. Youd be surprise how fast that will happen. The beach will be cleaned before summers end and my guess is before months end. So, after all the hours spent working at this and searching for answers and help, today there has been progress. ACAP(Atlantic coastal action program) are on board and will supply us with gloves and garbage bags. Then ACAP contacted ECW (Eastern Charlotte Waterways) and now I am waiting for a call from them. Also at 6:15 pm this evening one of CTVs senior news reporters, returned my call from yesterday. We talked about the situation for a bit and he asked me, If I were to be there cleaning the beach, how much garbage bags would there be, 2, 4, 20? Keep counting I said ... wayyy higher. He also thought the whole seaweed belt thing was facinating. Ill be out to see you tomorrow morning. were his last words. Im praying the fog that has us socked in at this moment is gone by the time he arrives or he wont get the video footage he wants. I am still frustrated and almost feeling panic because this is a time sensitive issue. Its all about the timing and height of tides. Never before has the old quote, Time and tide wait for no man. every felt more profound that it does right now, in this moment. The next hurdle will be trying to get as many volunteers to help with the clean-up and to add to the stress of that, this is a long weekend and that makes it even harder to get some goodhearted folks to give of their time to come and help. I was hoping for maybe this Saturday and Sunday but I may be expecting way too much. So, it goes without saying that if anyone reading this wants to come out to Chance Harbour and spend the day on the beach bagging up garbage then you can contact me via pm or here in this post. For now, I am keeping and eye on the clock, fog, and tides and hoping for the best for our Beautiful Bay of Fundy. She is a life giving force that affects all of us. Thats you and me. Ill post again tomorrow or as the happenings unroll. Love to you all....
