Good evening everyone! Now is the time for a new series, that I hope you will all enjoy. Please give me feedback! And since Sam doesnt know about this surprise just yet, lets keep it cool and we might be able to keep going with it. ;) So, for the lack of a better name for, lets call this Curious Castles! I am, however, open for other suggestions. What does it mean? Well, I will try to come up with castles that I visited throughout my life. But not necessarily the most well-known places! So lets start off today with Alanya Castle! As the name suggests, it is just south of the actual city of Alanya, Turkey, with most of it being built in the 13th century under the Sultanate of Rûm, it is based off of old fortifications from the Byzantine and Roman eras. However, after the pacification through the Ottoman Empire, the use for defenses decreased, so by the 19th century a lot of villas have been raised within the walls. It is now widely accessible to the public as an open air museum (as are such a vast amount of historical sites in Turkey - seriously, put that country on your bucket list!) and you will get a stunning view over the Turkish Riviera, especially the Alanya harbour and the Cleopatra beach, named after THE Cleopatra. She received the area around Alanya from Marcus Antonius, or Mark Anthony, and used to have a secret tunnel leading from the old fortification to the beach. There is also a juicy rumor that the cave underneath the cliff, on which the castle is built upon, was the love nest of Cleopatra and her paramour. In any case, if you are ever going to be there, it is definitely worth checking out.
