Just as in political conservatism and liberalism, etc. While the most outspoken atheists may identify as anti-theist or anti-religious, most nonbelievers circumscribe their rhetorical territory around anti-fundamentalism, while perhaps an even larger number simply find religion silly and give it negligible attention and energy. These are your atheists at the breakfast table as it were. The simple fact that atheists have raised over $100,000 for progressive religious charities is attention-getting in the best possible way. I’ve heard from countless atheists who were initially opposed to the program and now see the power of it. It’s an effective demonstration of our ability to discern between positive and negative expressions of religion. And theists often say this has changed the way they look at atheists.
