Good for you Bill OReilly (for the most part). Is there evidence to show, one way or the other, that the method of arrest was related to the size of the man or the color of his skin. He said he was having trouble breathing. I am a high ranking martial artist and I am telling you that this technique was not necessary. It is just an intuition (my intuitions are often quite good though), but my sense is that this was a gentle man that had a troubled life. Whatever the case, my heart goes out to him and to his family. Police have a tough job and I respect and understand that but, in this case, the technique was decidedly and unnecessarily aggressive. Period.
