Good idea, instead of just a knee jerk putting body cams on cops because us civil rights groups fought for them, how about a task force to come up with the best policies for the cameras too? Thus far our policy on cameras amounts to almost nothing on cop car cams and we are awaiting fair policy for the people not just cops from Pueblo. Our civil rights group is researching policies to make suggestions or to include them in legislation if their policies prove to be unfair. Right now cops turn on cop car cams with a remote at will, we want the cop car cams locked in trunks so cops cant just turn them on and off and edit or delete them within a few months. We assume the same thing will happen with body cams if we arent progressive with new policies. A mayor said she wants to wait for the task force she appointed about two weeks ago to finish evaluating issues surrounding body cameras, including what interactions with the public should be recorded. The mayor didnt set a date for when she wants police to start wearing the devices, but she gave the task force three months to complete its work.
