Good morning, As many of you, who have followed us since the beginning (February 20, 2012 to be exact ;)) are aware I have done 99.9% of the posts and correspondence here on the PAWS facebook page. Once in awhile, Matt, my husband and the founder of PAWS, would provide some updates and answer questions as well. We started this organization with the hopes of helping pet owners become more responsible in taking care of their pets, and our mission started as one designed to reduce local and shelter intake, all while keeping pets safe at home. It all began with insulated shelters!! Little did we know, this journey weve been blessed to be a part of, would take us on a road, filled with so many extra expectations. They have all been for the benefit of the community, and we couldnt feel more honored to be a part of it all. We never imagined to launch a spay/neuter program, let alone be ready to launch a high quality/high volume one right out of our very own building. Nor did we ever anticipate to launch a low-cost wellness program. Yet, these opportunities presented themselves because the great need has been there for many in our community, for so long, especially in the underserved communities. Now PAWS is partnering with Cornell, modeling elements of its programs after nationally recognized and respected organizations, such as Emancipet and Coalition to Unchain Dogs, all while having their guidance and mentorship along the way, anytime we have needed it. The ASPCA has been extremely kind and generous to us with grants exceeding $210,000, in addition to always assisting us with guidance and advice everytime we seek it out (and thats a lot ;))...they all do this because they understand the need of communities such as ours. They have firsthand knowledge of how dire the need is for outreach and how necessary it is for the pet owners in the underserved communities to have a resource to reach out to (all while being given the respect and non-judgmental approach weve strived to provide here at PAWS through all the elements). So with that being said, we are turning over our facebook page to a dedicated person. This has been very personal for us as weve grown with PAWS and as individuals. With PAWS gaining so much ground and moving at a very steady pace, it is now the right time to make this move. We thank you all so much for your continued support, and for sharing the PAWS mission! We look forward to it making an even greater impact in addition to expanding! Sincerely, Laura Piccone
