Good morning Beloit. It is currently 64 degrees and is supposed to get to the 80s. The temperature, not the decade that brought us things like huge mall bangs, and Miami Vice. Our stop the violence initiative continues with an arrest today of a subject who did an armed robbery a few days ago. Nice work by patrol and the Detective Bureau for their efforts in catching this misguided soul who felt that pointing guns was a good way to get money. He now knows that victims are not afraid to call for the police and to provide solid information so that we can make an arrest and hopefully a successful prosecution of the suspect. Speaking of crime prevention, I know that I harp on securing your house to make it a hard target, but I want to touch on it again really quick. I had a good friend have his house broken into yesterday. Yes having cops as friends may not prevent all crimes from happening to you. The suspects managed to get into the house through a partially open window and steal a large amount of personal items along with the typical electronics. I would encourage you all to look into decent safes to protect things like your vital paperwork (passports, SS cards etc). These items should go in a safe that is either very heavy and nearly impossible to carry, or should be bolted to the floor. Please also take pictures or write down serial numbers of electronics (not your Walkman...80s reference) but more expensive items. If you have any guns, we would again ask you to document what you have and have their serial numbers handy. These numbers should then be kept in the safe. If you have unique jewelry you should take pictures of that as well. It is important to make sure that when you are gone to make sure that windows are closed and locked. If you are trying to get fresh air, I would encourage you to leave windows open on the front of your house that are very obvious to your neighbors, not ones obstructed by bushes or fences etc. If you see folks knocking or ringing door bells in the neighborhood, or if someone stops to ask for money or the use of a phone or anything, take a mental note of their license plate or their description, DO NOT LET THEM IN THE HOUSE, and then call us. This is typical for people casing houses. If you see this kind of behavior, call us right away. The idea is to make the bad guys job as hard as possible. We hope you all have a great Wednesday. Be vigilant, and watch out for each other. Be safe BeloitProud.
