As Nigerians continue to cry over the recent acute petroleum scarcity, report says the situation will turn around as from Thursday this week. The Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Obafemi Olawore, has disclosed that members of the body received 30 million liters of petrol from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation on Monday, and that the supply will likely increase to 50 million, plus an additional 20 million as from Thursday. He said with the development, the product would be available for all. 2. As Nigeria draws close to the much publicized National Conference, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Idris Kutigi, as the chairman of the National Conference. Announcing the appointment, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, also disclosed that former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, has been appointed as the vice-chairman of the Conference. Also appointed was the wife of the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, Dr. Valerie Azinge, as Secretary. 3. Nigeria top industrialist, Aliko Dangote is now one of the top 25 richest people in the world. The African richest man has been announced by forbe as the 23 richest person in the world. Dangote now becomes the first Africa to have ever attained such feat. He was number 43 in the world last year. 4. That there is an ongoing war in the northeast is no doubt in question as the Boko Haram militants have continued to frustrate the effort of the Nigerian Army. Consequently, the Federal Government has recruiting forest guards to team up with the Joint Task Force in combating the menace. 5. Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state has condemned the just concluded centenary celebration, saying that Jonathan failed by celebrating the nation’s 100 years when many, including children were being killed in the north. He said the celebration was unnecessary. 6. Prominent Ijaw leaders who met in Yenagoa yesterday have resolved to galvanize support for Jonathan’s re-election in 2015. The group led by Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent Ijaw leaders have asked the entire Izon people to support Jonathan’s return. 7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has condemned holistically, the absence of Governor Rotimi Amaechi from the just concluded centenary celebration. Speaking on Amaechi’s disregard and hatred for President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Jerry Needam, the state Party Chairman said that Amaechi’s action was disappointing not only to Rivers people but the entire Niger-Delta. 8. As the Ekiti state governorship election draws near, 12 Governorship hopeful have purchased their forms to run for the position. Report says that even though 12 people have purchased the form, the party leadership may ask 11 of them to step down for a consensus candidate. 9. About 50 Nigerian players, including Mikel obi, Elderson Echejile and Emmanuel Emenike are already in Atlanta for the country’s friendly match against Mexico. 10. One Yasir Salihu, a graduate of English Literature from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has been arrested alongside six other Boko Haram members by the State Security Service, SSS for allegedly killing a popular Islamic cleric, Sheik Adam Albani, his wife and son on February 1, 2014 at Gwagwaje area of Zaria, Kaduna State. The SSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Oga while parading the sect members said Alban was killed because of his position against the Boko Haram militants. The End
