Good morning. It’s 7:55am here and I had hoped that as I got into bed last night that when my eyes opened again that the weather would be full of blue sky and sunshine after the three days of rain. It wasn’t. But as we arrive into Ketchikan I am sure the guests will put on their waterproofs and continue to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of Alaska and so far we have not had any complaints about the weather and so far nobody has blamed us for their wet clothes…………….a small reference to what happened a couple of weeks ago. My friend Mr. Mattress has continued to be a concern and has moved on from someone to smile about to someone who has become a problem. I won’t bother listing his continuing complaints but we said no to his request for a new toilet seat . We shall document everything he has complained about and will send it to the office after the cruise so we can decide what to do should he look to sail with us again. Normally I try and find compassion and look for a reason as to why someone would have 18, yes 18 different icare reports but in this case I have been unable to find one. My guess is that he is unhappy on the ship just as he is at home, in the supermarket, in a restaurant and indeed in life. I would feel sorry for him but he really has not been very nice to the staff and has removed his gratuities………….obviously. Yep, there is bugger all IO can do with this one and believe me, I have tried and the Guest Services Manager and her team should all be given a medal each for what they have had to listen to but we have been unable to turn this one around. On a much happier note all the other guests are having a brilliant time despite the liquid sunshine and we have a full day here in Ketchikan and wont be leaving until 10pm. My fingers are crossed though because there is a chance that our guest entertainer tonight ( Ned Rifkin) may not be able to join the ship. If that is the case we will not be able to put the Singing With The Big Band show on and so I shall have to move things around and put the Ticket to Ride Show on instead. This would mean that tomorrow I would have to host a talent show instead I have not done a talent show this season on the Miracle as I do think the guests deserve to see as much professional entertainment as possible. The 25 years I have been hosting Talent Shows has meant that there is a exclusive list of songs which I have grown to dislike with the same passion that I dislike people here on Facebook who have multiple screen names and the French.
