Good morning Manitouwadge! Please find the attached or see below for my campaign statement for SGDSB Trustee. For the members of the community who do not know me, my name is Aaron MacGregor, and I am your current Superior-Greenstone District School Board Trustee. I was born and raised in Manitouwadge, and I am a recent graduate of Manitouwadge High School. I have seen, first hand, where our school system’s strengths and weaknesses lie. I am passionate about my hometown, and as times and demographics change, a strong voice for our students is as necessary and important as ever. I am in my second year of study in the field of life science at the University of Toronto, with the intention of eventually attending medical school and continuing to live in and serve Manitouwadge. I care about our community’s schools, and in my almost two years of service on the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, first as the student trustee for the 2012/2013 school year, and now as the Manitouwadge ward trustee, I have built for myself a reputation of respect and competence at the board table. In my short term serving Manitouwadge since my appointment in March, some great accomplishments have been made for the students in our community, a few of which include: The addition of much-needed teaching staff at Manitouwadge Public School The discussion of e-learning practices and the formation of an e-learning advisory committee The development and approval of a new set of by-laws and trustee code of conduct to better serve the communities of SDGSB I would like to continue achieving results for Manitouwadge at SGDSB, but to do so, I will need the support of my community. As your public school board trustee, my promise to you is simple: I will continue to be strongly present at the SGDSB table by making every effort to continue to maintain my 100% meeting attendance; I will continue to always question SGDSB trustees and administration, with our students’ and community’s best interests in mind, on actions and recommendations affecting Manitouwadge High School and Manitouwadge Public School; I will always be available to constituents to act on and respond to concerns, questions, and comments; And I will always be held accountable by the constituents for my actions and words at the SGDSB table, which must reflect the well-being of our students and our community.
