"Good morning, Pennsylvania library advocates. Focus on the state budget this week shifts to the State Senate. The budget bill (H.B. 1437) that passed by the House: ·increases Library Access/POWER Library by $500,000 (+ 17.7%) and the State Library by $29,000 (+1.5%), and, ·level-funds the Public Library Subsidy ($53.5 million) and Library Services for the Visually impaired and Disabled ($2.5 million.) These funding amounts can become reality, but only if you Take Action. With H.B. 1437 passing the State House, we now see a real chance for some specific, tangible improvements despite a tight budget and state revenues falling below projections. These increases will not solve all library services and funding challenges overnight but, as a good starting point, they can go a long way toward rebuilding a vital online resource—POWER LIBRARY—for Pennsylvania library users, especially students. We’re getting closer but success requires a strong finish! Every voice heard now can make a huge difference. Click Here to send an email message to your State Senator and to Governor Corbett. Please spread this word as broadly as possible and please don’t delay. We’re in the homestretch. Thanks for Taking Action to improve library services."
