Good morning... Risk of Severe Weather: Low Significant Weather: Frosty/Icy Patches (a.m.) Wind: N or NW light in the S, W or SW’ly moderate or fresh in the N. Summary: Dry and cold day but with sunshine across central and southern areas of England and Wales, increasingly cloudy further N and W with outbreaks of rain across Scotland, Ireland and later N England. Forecast: It is a cold start across many areas with a widespread frost and icy patches and this is something to be aware of if traveling early this morning. The remainder of the morning and also the remainder of the day across most of Wales, the Midlands, E Anglia and S England in general will be dry with some bright or sunny spells; these prolonged at times but despite this it will be a cold day here. Across Scotland, Ireland and later N England Saturday will become increasingly cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain and showers developing. Some heavy rain is possible across W and SW Scotland in particular and whilst N England may well be dry for most of the morning outbreaks of rain will move into Cumbria and Lancashire, for example, into the middle and latter half of the afternoon along with a strengthening wind. Outbreaks of rain will become increasingly patchy as it moves into S England tonight but will still mark the expected and forecasted change to a cold NW’ly wind once again during Sunday and wintry showers are expected across Scotland and N Ireland overnight and into Sunday morning. Temperatures today near or slightly below average but more northern areas will, rather unusually, but milder than further south due to the wet and windy weather. Maximum temperatures across Scotland and Ireland are expected to range between 7C and 11C, whilst across Wales and the rest of England temperatures range between 5C and 8C. Chief Forecaster: MH
