Good morning, UK Forecast – 12th May Synoptic - TopicsExpress

Good morning, UK Forecast – 12th May Synoptic situation: Low pressure centred close to northern Denmark continues to influence the weather across the UK today with light to moderate west/north-westerly winds affecting many areas. Embedded troughs will bring further showery conditions to many parts but some regions will be lucky and remain mostly dry. Today’s outlook: This morning is starting off with a fair amount of cloud in many areas with a scattering of showers, although they aren’t as widespread as they have been over the last couple of mornings. Nonetheless there are still some rather heavy showers around, especially across parts of central and southern Scotland, north Wales and western parts of Northern Ireland. There are some sunny spells around, the best of these towards north-eastern and south-western regions of the country, including the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. It is these areas which will see the best of the sunny spells today but even so a scattering of showers will develop and some of these will turn heavy with a risk of hail and thunder. Meanwhile for the rest of England, including the Isle of Man, and Wales the showery theme will continue for much of the day, some of the showers turning heavy with hail and thunder at times, but there will be some sunny spells in-between the downpours, the best of these around the coast with the showers tending to form over inland regions. The showers will tend to align themselves in a north-west to south-east pattern at times meaning that whilst some regions will catch a number of showers, especially likely over northern and eastern England, others will escape with a mostly dry and bright day. Across Northern Ireland and Scotland, including the Western and Northern Isles it is also a showery outlook for today, some of the showers turning heavy with hail and thunder over inland regions with coastal areas to the north and west staying drier and brighter. It will be a less windy day for many areas with light to moderate north/north-easterly winds across northern Britain but moderate westerlies further south and still quite blustery around some of the showers. Temperature wise and for much of England, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and Wales they will be close to normal for the time of year with maximums generally between 13 °C and 15°C, but towards parts of southeast England and in the brighter areas highs of 15°C to 17°C are expected. For much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, temperatures of between 13°C and 15°C are expected, a degree or so higher in the best of any drier or sunnier spells. Finally, UV levels today will reach moderate in the best of any sunshine, low to moderate elsewhere, whilst pollen levels will be low for most areas of the UK thanks to the showers but could rise to moderate across south-western parts of England. Have a great day, whatever you are doing. Paul
