Good morning, UK Forecast – 23rd June SYNOPTIC SITUATION: High pressure remains the dominant feature of the weather across the UK as it ridges up from the Azores across western regions, whilst another high is to the northeast of Iceland. A weak set of weather fronts are bringing more cloud and a little rain to northern Scotland, whilst a developing trough may set off a few heavy showers over central and eastern regions later today. TODAYS OUTLOOK: ENGLAND, THE CHANNEL ISLANDS, THE ISLE OF WIGHT AND WALES: It is a dry start to the day for just about all parts with some good spells of sunshine around, especially over southern and south-western England along with Wales, but there are also areas of low cloud and mist in places. Most areas will see some sunny spells at times today with variable amounts of cloud, the best of the sunshine remaining across western regions and around the coasts where sea breezes develop. However, cloud will tend to build across central and eastern England with some heavy showers breaking out. Not everywhere will see the showers as they will be fairly well scattered, but where they do occur they could turn thundery with some heavy downpours - the most likely areas for these being Lincolnshire, the East Midlands and into western parts of East Anglia.. Temperatures will climb up to between 21°C and 23°C for northern England, but between 23°C and 25°C further south. Light and variable winds are expected, although sea breezes will develop around coasts turning it a touch cooler here during the afternoon. THE ISLE OF MAN AND NORTHERN IRELAND It is also a dry start across these regions with variable amounts of cloud around. By this afternoon bright or sunny spells will have developed in most areas but there is a risk of the odd sharp shower breaking out across the east of Northern Ireland although these will be pretty isolated. It will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine with maximums of 20°C or 21°C in a light to moderate north/north-westerly breeze, cooler along the north coast of Northern Ireland. SCOTLAND, INCLUDING THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN ISLES: There is a fair amount of mist and low cloud around this morning with central and southern parts of Scotland seeing the best of the sunshine. The cloud will tend to break up with many parts seeing some sunny spells developing by this afternoon, although the far north may remain mostly overcast. A few showers could break out this afternoon, over eastern and south-eastern Scotland, and they could be heavy in one or two spots. Maximum temperatures of 19°C to 21°C are expected, but the Northern and Western Isles will be cooler with highs of 15°C or 16°C. UV AND POLLEN: UV levels today will be high in the sunny areas, moderate where it remains mostly cloudy, whilst pollen levels will be high to very high across England and Wales, moderate over central, southern and eastern Scotland along with Northern Ireland, whilst remaining low for northern and north-western parts of Scotland. Have a good day, Paul
