Weather Situation A vigorous front with gusty winds will move swiftly across New South Wales today. Winds will generally be strong gusty northwesterlies ahead of the front and strong southwesterlies behind the front, with winds reaching gale force through ranges and coastal parts south from the Hunter Valley and over the southern inland. Temperatures will range from hot to very hot in the northeast of the state, accompanied by dry conditions. Scattered showers with the chance of afternoon thunderstorms are forecast for the far south of the state. For the rest of Thursday 26 September: Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire area: Greater Hunter The NSW Rural Fire Service warns that any bushfire that starts has the potential to cause loss of life and destroy many homes. Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire areas: Far North Coast, North Coast, Greater Sydney Region, New England, Northern Slopes and North Western The NSW Rural Fire Service warns that any bushfire that starts has the potential to threaten lives and destroy homes. The Rural Fire Service advises you to: Check your bushfire survival plan - Now. Monitor the fire and weather situation in any way you can: through rfs.nsw.gov.au and bom.gov.au, television or radio. Call Triple Zero if you see a fire.
