Good morning and welcome to YourElevationToday (YET). Our topic is, Say a Prayer. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4: 29-31). Nearly everyone who is a believer has the problem of being shy or timid when it comes to sharing their faith. For some, it is outright fear! We all ask questions like ‘what will I say?’ ‘How will I start?’ ‘What if they don’t listen?’ ‘What if I fumble?’ So, we get very self-conscious and rarely if ever speak of such unless we are in the safety of the company of other believers. As far as I know, there is only one cure for this; The Holy Spirit. We are not required to do this work on our own, in our own strength or wisdom. When Jesus gave the ‘Great Commission’, he was mindful of the fact that he was speaking to people who were shy, timid, uneducated, people who had speech impediments, low self-esteem. Why on earth would he do that? First because he has a cosmic sense of humour, but on a serious note…because he knew we would have help. We are co-labourers with God in the business of propagating the gospel. Hence, this gives us unfettered access to every resource of heaven. Where we need courage, wisdom, eloquence, help of any sort, He is able to supply in abundance. When next you’re about to share the gospel with someone and find that you are lacking in anyway (which is all the time anyway!) take a few moments to say a prayer.
