Good morning/evening folks, Active regions for Sept 15, 2014 Solar wind speed: 452.1 km/sec density: 1.6 protons/cm3 Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 1 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 1 quiet Here is an updated look at the visible solar disk on Monday. Solar activity declined to very low levels this morning. Region 2157 in the southwest quadrant continues to decay as it approaches the west limb. In the northwest quadrant, region 2158 is stable as it also turns towards the west limb. All other visible numbered regions are quiet and not considered a threat for strong solar flares. No Earth directed coronal mass ejections were observed during the past day. Another CME is en route to Earth. It was launched in our direction three days ago by the eruption of a magnetic filament near the center of the solar disk. The impact wont be as effective as the double-whammy of Sept. 12th. Nevertheless, NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Sept. 16th when the CME arrives. Peaceful day to all.
