Good morning everyone. I have been asked by the father of the young lady in the picture to post this on our page. The father is a member of the DAB TEAM and the young lady in the picture is a very much loved and valued volunteer. I am particularly close to her as I helped raise her.... I am sure we all have those times in our lives when we wish our days could have been different... Yesterday was one of those days. I received a call from this team member asking me to get to the hospital urgently as his daughter had been injured. He was working in the rural areas helping those without medical help... He was rushing through but he was hours away.. Upon my arrival things were not good. She had lost consciousness briefly for about three minutes at the scene of the accident but her vitals were stable. Despite a full-face helmet.. The front section of which shattered upon impact..her face hit the curb. She sustained multiple abrasions and contusions all over her body... which is usual for bike accidents. The problem is that as a result of smashing her head into the curb she suffered significant trauma to the bridge of the nose which has resulted in a complete fracture of the bones inside the nose (ethmoid bones) and the bridge of her nose, zygomatic arches (cheek bones) and sustained a direct orbital floor fracture on both sides. Her top palate is totally loose from the structures that hold it in place.... They have to wait for the swelling to reduce before they can attempt to repair and restore her face. Fortunately she has only minor petechial hemorrhaging on the brain and not a significant amount of swelling but the eyes and face are extremely swollen with only minor distortion of vision. In plain English .. Her face is smashed to pieces and she is very lucky to be alive. MOTOR BIKES.... Its not always what the rider of the bike does.... In this case she was cut off by a car that did not indicate... Unfortunately car drivers dont always pay attention or see bikes... The question that begs an answer is... IS IT WORTH IT???? Here are the pics upon my arrival at the hospital pic 1&2... A bit later after we had washed her and made her a bit more comfortable pic 3... Fortunately her Mom and sister are with her now and she is comfortable and resting Pic 4.... On behalf if all THE DAB TEZM MEMBERS... I would like to take this opportunity to wish the family strength during this very traumatic time. Our prayers are with her constantly
