Good morning folks. I had no idea about the number of expats (foreign workers with skill and cash) who are leaving Ghana until I had a conversation about the subject. Then later in the evening, a highly qualified French expat who lives on the same compound that houses IMANI said goodbye to Ghana. I cant handle the dumso dumso, and the escalating prices of everything. Good luck. Then my Beninois business friend also called and asked me What is going on in with your regulations on foreign investment? My friend just arrived from Germany wanting to invest and was told he had to put $500,000 down as seed capital. Even in France, nobody asks you for that kind of money before you set up. He left today for Ivory Coast where no one asks for this silly requirements. I said to him, I know that one time, even water and other services needed on the FPSO Nkrumah were sourced from Ivory Coast. Local Content is misunderstood Indeed from 2001 until now, we have been chasing away foreigners under the guise that we can do everything ourselves and we have messed up severally. Not all foreigners are great. Some are gold diggers, yes, but there are quality foreigners, with skills and money, those who train Ghanaians and later leave. How many Ghanaians professionals train their kind to take over from them? But lets be blunt, Ghanas lands are not paved with gold, and the best we should be asking and seeking now is more small dollar investments , $50,000 being the least. We are not even taking advantage of the terror activities in Nigeria to brand ourselves well as destination for real investments. We are rather spending millions of dollars of international lobbyists with little gain in the midst of cholera that had killed almost 50 people in the city alone and still plaguing hundreds of people, and where sadly Nogouchi Medical centre, testing for suspicious ebola needs cash, small cash very small cash to buy ebola testing kits!!!! The earlier we get this, and get off our misplaced, pampered and delusory self importance the better! - Share this widely.
