Good morning from Birmingham. Those that know me know I have a passion for motor bike racing. It was that passion that ensured I am typing this today. The medical staff and fellow spectators at the circut brought me back from never never land. Apparently I was that bad i was nearly getting a lift to hospital via Air Ambulance, something I proudly made a donation to the day before. Anyway a transfer from Brands to the Cardiac Unit of the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent was next. On arrival it was straight to the operating table for 2 hours. Again during the operation i was on my way to never, never land but thankfully that was addressed and they carried on. My artery was opened and stents put into keep me on the straight and narrow. That night two of my children arrived. Phillip Gough from Birmingham and Judith Gough from London a most welcome sight. Along with Susan McAllister they provided love and care in a hospital where I didnt even have a tooth brush, it was all in the hire car parked at Brands Hatch. My other children, Rachel Gough, David Gough and Hollie McAllister wanted to travel over but they were talked out of it. Joe Stewart and Gee Mac offered the same. The messages of support and help quickly arrived and I must mention Roz Small in particular. Along with Joe and Gormy their help has been fantastic. To the girls in the Peppercorn Cafe Belfast, many, many thanks. To our friends and my fellow committee members of the 36th (Ulster) Division Memorial Association thanks for all your messages and offers of help, in particular from Lauren Kerr. To my own wee group East End Great War Society cheers. Just do what Lisa Jones says. At present I am mentally fine, tho a scared man. Physically I am banjaxed. Recovery will be slow so bare with me. To the hospital staff in Ashford, Kent you were fantastic, the NHS is alive and well. To my children at home and grandchildren I cant wait to get home on Friday to see you all. To my partner Susan McAllister you are one in a million you started the process of saving my life and I shall never forget that. How could I? You are a star. In closing thanks to one and all and I shall be at the Ulster Hall for A Force for Ulster - Remembering the Fallen. Will you? Cheers.
