Good morning my friends. Well, there are probably some folks in this nation who do not even realize or care what happened seventy-three years ago on this date. Well, I do care and we all should never let our country or its citizens forget either. Just between you and me, I think today, December the 7th, should be spent in solemn remembrance of the men and women who lost their lives serving our country instead of demonstrating in memory of people who lost their lives while breaking the law and were in the process of be arrested. This should be a national day of prayer and remembrance instead of a day for marching. On that fateful day, a peaceful Sunday morning, of December the 7th, 1941, while most people were thinking about getting ready for Christmas, the nation of Japan began bombing our naval base and airfield in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The lives of many of our parents and thousands of families throughout America were changed forever. Our fathers never even considered running off to Canada to avoid having to serve our country, but instead, the next day, thousands of men and boys flocked to get in line to join the Armed Forces to see which way they could serve our country. In a matter of minutes of the news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the unspeakable joy of Christmas was thrust aside and replaced with a horrible fear of an uncertain future. What has happened to our country along the way, that so many people have lost their sight of what is right and what is wrong and are now following anybody with the loudest voice. Personally, I am getting rather tired of hearing about the deaths of two people who lost their lives after breaking the law. I have been watching the news for over an hour and have not heard Pearl Harbor mentioned even one time, but have heard several times the voice of Al Sharpton and his demands. What this country needs now is a voice of reason and a leader who will point the way to peace and understanding instead of making unfair demands on the populace of our nation. Vickie and I had the distinct pleasure of joining a diverse group of people for dinner as we shared a most interesting evening of dialog and fellowship while sitting around a beautifully decorated table. Before the sumptuous meal began, each of us joined hands and were led in a beautiful, heartfelt prayer by our host. I am very thankful that we were included to spend the evening with this circle of friends who shared a common thread…we were all Americans who loved our God and our country. I had the pleasure to have been seated by a wonderful lady who became an American citizen in 1982 and I felt rather humbled in the knowledge that I have been an American citizen since the day I was born. It gave me pause and made me think about how often I might have taken my own American citizenship for granted. I can only hope that I have made a contribution somewhere along the way to have made our country a little better place in which to live. Join me today in prayer for our leaders and for our nation that we will turn our hearts to God and once again focus on what is right. Have a good day and do not ever forget Pearl Harbor. God Bless!!
