Good morning my friends. Why is it that the really good days that are filled with sunshine and good friends have to pass by so quickly. Yesterday was one of those days which was over much earlier than we wished it to be. Maybe it has something to do with age that time passes by so quickly or it could be that I enjoyed each waking moment. Anyway, yesterday was a blessing. Our day began with us setting up our little display at the North Carolina/Virginia border at the NC Welcome Center for National Tourism Day. Our dreams came true, there were ham and sausage biscuits, and those good hot cinnamon things from Hardees waiting for us. And then vendors from down the I-77 corridor began setting up, too, along side us. Our friends from The Hampton Inn and Suites and the Wingate Inn in Mooresville were there, too. And bless their hearts, those good folks from Winston-Salem showed up with a few dozen of those mouth-watering Krispy Kremes of which I devoured a couple of with the gusto of a hungry hound dog. Before we could leave, the folks at the Welcome Center started toting in KFC and pizzas, so suffice it to say, I never left there hungry. We met lots of nice travelers from all over the north that were heading south. As we have said before, there are no strangers, only friends waiting to be met. I left my large 26 X 40 canvas photograph of Linnville Falls for them to put on display. After chowing down on some KFC, we took the back way out of the Welcome Center and up across Piper’s gap into Virginia and over to the Parkway and headed south. The trees up there along the parkway haven’t been told that spring is already here and many of them still stood naked in the breeze. It was wonderful to have Vickie riding along with me even though she slept a lot. I did get her awake at Doughton Park and we climbed the rock steps up to Wildcat Rocks and gazed out over the pollen-laden valley below us. It was a great place to make some pics of each other and we made a few, but we haven’t seen them yet to see if they are worthy to put on Facebook. Since we didn’t have a chance to help our friend, Teena Brooks, to celebrate her birthday on Tuesday, we drove down and over to Longview and sort of surprised her and Stephen with a visit. Teena has a penchant for baking cup cakes and is very good at it and we took her a big cookie jar made in the shape of a giant cup cake. Stephen won’t be able to sneak a cookie out of that jar because it is a talking jar…when you lift the lid, it says, “Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!” And we took her some pretty flowers so Stephen will have something else to water. The best part was just seeing them and getting some righteous hugs. There just isn’t anything like seeing friends and family to round out the end of a perfect day. We are so blessed to have friends like Stephen and Teena, also known to us as (Butch and GraciE). Gigi was really glad to see us when we picked her up from her part-time job of guarding the gallery. To make things even better, I crawled in bed just as the American Pickers was coming on the tube. It was too late for popcorn, but I ain’t complainin’, the day was almost perfect and we got home safe and sound. I gave thanks to the Good Lord for all his blessings and didn’t even get up until 4:30 this morning. We are extremely proud to announce that we now have a doctor in the family in the person of our son-in-law, Dr. Chuck LaRusso. Congratulations Chuck for a job well done and for hanging in there. I like hanging around with him, sometimes some of his knowledge will rub off on me through osmosis. Chuck is living proof that some good things come out of Chapel Hill. I hope your day will be good and please don’t forget to be grateful. We all are most fortunate to live in such a good and beautiful place as America. God Bless!!
