Good morning my friends on this great Sabbath Day. Do you think - TopicsExpress

Good morning my friends on this great Sabbath Day. Do you think the Good Lord has been having some fun with us by letting us experience some really nice spring-like days before he jolts us back to reality this coming week. Maybe these days are what they call false-spring. I got out for an hour or two during work yesterday and ran down to Davidson and made a couple of pics. I didn’t actually run down there, I don’t run anywhere. I drove down there in my van while listening to another Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. That Reacher is forevermore one tough character that fights for truth and justice and the American way, but a whole lot differently that Superman does. Reacher likes to set things right and hates injustice wherever he finds it. He doesn’t look for trouble, but it always seems to be able to find him. And if they ever make another movie featuring Reacher as a character, I surely hope they can find an actor who is at least six foot and five inches tall as he is in the books and not Tom Cruise who is five-seven. Casting Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher is about as crazy casting me as Elvis Presley in a musical. Speaking of movies, I remember the good old days when my daddy and mama would take us three kids and a couple of cousins to the Drive-In Theater on Wednesday nights…Wednesday nights were Dollar Night. We all went to see a movie and a cartoon for one dollar. On good spring night like we’ve had lately, Daddy would pull the old green Plymouth into a space and we kids would quickly pile out and spread a quilt on the ground in front of the car to watch the movie. Daddy would pop up a couple of grocery bags full of our homegrown popcorn and we’d take a gallon jar of water to help wash it down. You talk about cheap entertainment; that was it. Now to go see a movie, I ask if they have a layaway plan just to buy a bag of popcorn and a drink. The old Carolina Drive-In at the intersection of Highways 150 and 152 was really good place for a young boy who was dating, too. They had the best hot dogs for fifteen cents and popcorn was a dime. It just didn’t get a whole lot better than that. We also frequented the Mooresville-Davidson Drive-In Theater, too, which was located not very far south of Mt. Mourne. It wasn’t because I was cheap that we boys often took our dates to the Drive-In, it was just that we didn’t have much money…besides that, it was a safe place to park while we steamed up the windows. And we always hoped our parents wouldn’t ask us what movie was playing when we got home. Double dating in those days was called “Four in the floor.” That didn’t have anything to do with where the gear shift was located either. I got a lot of my formal education at the Drive In. Maybe that’s why I’m so dumb about so many other things today. You know, when I get down to thinking about it, I never did use algebra one time at the Drive-In Theater, but maybe I did practice a little French while we were doing some heavy-duty kissing there. Just think folks, that was over fifty years ago and I still recall those days with great fondness while I sing, “Precious Memories.” Please don’t tell anybody about us kids “making out” at the Drive-In when we were teenagers, we still might get in trouble. Well, I had better quit dreaming about the old days and start studying my Sunday school lesson and then get ready for church. I have the opportunity to usher again today and I can always use a little forgiveness. Try to stay warm and dry today, they’re calling for some more wet stuff coming our way. Time passes so quickly these days; it looks like we’re going to be having April showers while it’s still March. God Bless!!
