Good morning to all members, players, families and sponsors. The end of the season is now just around the corner as the minor round as drawn to a close and the finals series begins next week. The season came to its conclusion with the Viking boys once again having a clean sweep of all games played on Saturday. The coaches and their staff have done a tremendous job thus far, but now the hard work begins as we attempt to convert minor round success into the ultimate reward. The A grade lads played a hard fought game down at Morphettville Park, possibly the hardest oval to play a decent game of footy. The Roos threw everything at the Vikings in the first half and went in slightly in front. Our lads did not look switched on, looked lethargic and were inaccurate. A good hard think at half time payed dividends as the side came out and played a much more methodical brand of footy running out winners by just under three goals. Best for the Vikings were Borowski, Marks and Bruce whilst Flash Gordon (Aha Aha) kicked four goals. The B grade absolutely flogged a hapless second rate Roos outfit. MVPFC have huge issues with very few under 18 players and no Saturday under 14 and under 16’s. Save for buying a team I am not sure where they go from here. Our lads were disciplined and are flourishing under some great coaching. The boys will not be able to rest on this effort as they will have the target on their backs for this finals series. It was fantastic to see Daniel Sukkel back from injury and now putting pressure on his spot in the A grade. Daniel was a vital cog in last year’s A grade grand final of which he played much of with a knee injury. Daniel kicked 12 and Matthew Raitt 5. Best for the Vikings were Sukkel, H Kari, and S Alvino The Under 18 boys played in patches to win easily against the Roos. HVFC once again leant our talented Dylan Zeitz to the Roos in order to have a game. Dylan played well for the opposition and it was a good hit out for him playing against his mates. It was inevitable with this team, that we finish in the top three however the hard work starts tonight at practice as the boys will need to lift significantly to take their game to a finals standard. Collins took some big grabs and kicked 9 goals in a best on ground performance. It promises to be an exciting finals series as the lads begin by playing arch rivals Flagstaff Hill Falcons at Marion. Best for the Valley Collins, Moran, Cox The under 16’s played on Sunday against Morphettville Park “Sunday team” . Unfortunately the game was abandoned due to an injury and were awaiting an ambulance for the injured player. The ambulance took longer than the allowed time and as such the game was called off. The under 16 team has had a great year thus far and deservedly sits atop the SFL ladder. A hard week on the track will have our boys cherry ripe for their tilt at the flag. Happy Valley Under 14s started the day in fourth place and were playing top team Reynella at Reynella. The young lads showed great maturity and just how far they have come this season under Steve Chapman when they defeated the Wineflies for the second time in 2013. The boys ended the day by knocking Reynella from the top spot and climbed to third place3 setting up a repeat meeting with Reynella at Marion next Saturday. Steve has the boys feet firmly on the ground and they will work even harder this week on the track. Best for the Vikings were Birbeck, Walton and Brini in a great team performance. On Sunday at 11.40am our C grade boys played Cove in the first semi final. Our boys were absolutely dominant in the first half and held Cove goal less. Cove fought back in the third quarter adding four goals to our one. This however only inspired our fellows to go harder in the last quarter where we outscored Cove four goals to two. This is a sensational result and sets up a big preliminary final next week against Flagstaff Hill at Pig Park. Best for the Valley boys were J. Grocock, L. Rogers, A. Taylor whilst the big fella Shane Sterzl kicked four. Congratulations to Grant Sterzl for his coaching efforts this season he has really deserved this opportunity to lead the boys into a Grand Final. Finals next week see the A B and Under 16 ‘s at Noarlunga Oval on Saturday and the under 18 and under 14’s at Marion oval also on Saturday. The C grade play at Flagstaff Hill on Sunday. Very few clubs are in a position where all of their teams (bar the Sunday under 14’s) make the top 4 and achieve the double chance. It is now squarely up to the boys to make the most of this advantage and work hard in the endeavors to make it to the last weekend in the 2013 season. I take this opportunity to ask that we have as many supporters, families and sponsors out to support the club at the grounds on Saturday and Sunday.
