Good news for Chelsea as striker Diego Costa only suffers minor muscular injury Relief: Diego Costa could feature against Everton Simon Johnson A A A Thursday 28 August 2014 Fears that Diego Costa will face months on the sidelines eased today after it emerged the Chelsea striker has only suffered a minor muscular injury. Costa was hurt during training yesterday, which was particularly worrying for Chelsea because their £32million summer signing struggled with a hamstring problem at the end of last season. If he is not cleared for that game, Costa could have a fortnight to recover with Chelsea likely to ask Spain that he misses the forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers. With doubts over Costa, veteran forward Didier Drogba is in line to start his first game of the season but has looked short of match sharpness since rejoining last month. Fernando Torres is the only other frontman in the squad but he has already told AC Milan he wants to join them. Jose Mourinho is prepared to let him leave despite claims to the contrary last weekend and Chelsea and Milan have been in talks over a loan for the past week. The only hold-up has been due to Torres’s demands that his wages in Italy match the £175,000 a week he earns at Stamford Bridge. That works out at just under £9m a year but AC Milan are around £2m short of that figure and Chelsea are unwilling to make up the shortfall. Torres will have to take a pay cut and he appears to have softened his stance with sources in Italy suggesting he has already told chief executive Adriano Galliani he wants to make the switch.
