Good people saved my life. Sometimes the best we can do is to - TopicsExpress

Good people saved my life. Sometimes the best we can do is to surround ourselves with good people and keep breathing. This week, I have strove to talk openly about depression. It is IMHO, the foremost obstacle to compassion ~ silence kills isnt merely an adage. The stigma over depression prevents us from discussing it openly like any other affliction. The afflicted are no less stigmatized. People who struggle with depression are often ashamed and choose to seek comfort within the confines of their homes and their heads, raising barriers between themselves and the most assured remedy ~ COMMUNITY. If shame is the trigger man of depression, then acceptance is the ultimate defense. Several times in my life, I have retreated inward, pushed away friends and family, and lived a more insular life because I let fear, insecurity, and shame convince me that my worth was dependent on achievement and success ~ realizing some vision for a future that would be better than the present because I [BLANK]. The lesson I didnt understand until this year: I never needed to make something of myself to be worth something ~ to be worthy of love. The role you play in the lives of those you love and who love you is the greatest measure of your worth. But even then, for those currently behind their walls, the possibilities and opportunity that a single life can bring are of immeasurable value. So, dont choose to be alone ~ in your struggles and in your joys. Good people can save your life. #suicideprevention #twloha
