Good question! Are you? 1:7 Americans rely upon food banks. People - TopicsExpress

Good question! Are you? 1:7 Americans rely upon food banks. People who once GAVE to food banks are now TAKING from them. We have roughly 2.5 million homeless and another 2.4 million inmates for a total of nearly 5 million people either homeless or behind bars, contributing nothing to society. Property values have not returned in most locations since the housing crisis of 08. Jobs are not paying quality wages but, seriously, to all the bleeding-hearts, this fantasy of jacking minimum wage up to $15.00/hour will solve nothing. I ran a small café and had I been forced to pay my chef $15/hour Id have gone out of business within the first couple of months. Sometimes its just not doable. Its worth reporting that Uncle Sam always reports U3 when he reports unemployment in this country. U3 neglects to consider those who only have part-time jobs who require full-time jobs and those who have fallen off the rolls for unemployment compensation. The U6 unemployment rate, on the other hand, a more accurate measure which still counts people who have fallen off of the rolls and those who need full-time work, is 11.5% for 10/2014. Doesnt make the US look so good, does it? Whats more, 50% more Americans are working part-time that desire full-time work since 2008. More people are living below the poverty line as time goes by as food prices rise faster than inflation since the CPI (consumer price index) does not take food stuffs into account. The only thing we have going for us are stable, lower gas prices because of shale oil reserves. Lets see how long THAT lasts. (*knock on wood*) Interesting note from the article: from September to October, the price of a pound of Turkey rose from $1.58/lb to $1.66/lb. That represents a 5.2% price increase in just one month. Therefore, a 20 lb. turkey went from costing $31.76 before tax to $33.20 in one month. Happy Thanksgiving---now open those wallets and purses! Lastly, you wont see me doing any shopping on Thanksgiving Day. I refuse to support any of that nonsense on a personal level. I understand Capitalism and The Free Market, thats just my personal choice... .tW/Oc.
