Good-tiding for students of Sanghar district: SU VC announces to open a new campus at Sanjhoro JAMSHORO: Sindh University (SU) vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir A. Mughal has announced to open up another new campus at Sanjhoro; district Sanghar which according to him will shortly start functioning. This he announced while addressing the meeting of deans committee held under his chair in the Senate Hall, administrative building of the university. The meeting was attended by pro-vice chancellors of additional campuses Bhit Shah, Thatta, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Naushehroferoze, all deans of academic faculties, chairmen of all departments and directors of different centers. The agenda of the meeting included ensuring implementation of reforms under semester system, allocating theory & practical/ laboratory teaching credit hours and introducing new course i.e. human values as compulsory subject in all the departments/ disciplines from the next year. Addressing the meeting, vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir A. Mughal said that he was opening up the additional campuses so as to fulfill the dream of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed regarding providing higher education at the footsteps of the masses and it could only be done by opening campuses in different cities of the province. He urged Sindh Govt. to release the funds of additional campuses in the twinkle of an eye so that the process of imparting higher edification at the doorsteps of the masses may be continued without any hindrances. He further said that seven campuses of Sindh University situated at Larkana, Dadu, Bhit Shah, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Badin & Naushehroferoze were already working successfully with 400 to 500 students in attendance in average and the campuses in Malir Karachi & Sukkur were also in pipeline whereas a campus in Sanjhoro will soon be inaugurated. Dr. Mughal said there were many commotions that SU was opening additional campuses without proper buildings and funds but he would only say to them to take a look of SU when it was established in two rooms of NJV School Karachi in 1947 but now he said it had 58 departments with many beautiful buildings. “The universities cannot be established overnight but these always take enough time to be established effectively with many buildings, departments and ample funds”. He said. VC took the notice of not handing over the midterm examination papers to the students and issued directives to ensure the handing over of the answers’ copies to the students so that they may improve in semester exams by not committing the same mistakes. He spoke about the role of dean faculty of education in details terming him/her as academic leader. “Deans are responsible to introduce new academic reforms, innovative things, prepare feasibility reports, meet students to know their problem and solve them, prepare schedule of classes and remain in constant contact with the parents”. Vice Chancellor maintained. He said that 75% attendance for appearing in semester exams ought not to be compromised adding that the retired PhD holder professors must stay at their offices till 8 hours and the old concept of taking class and going back to home is no longer acceptable. He added that retired teachers with PhD degrees should not be given undergraduate classes but they will teach only in M. Phil and PhD classes in order to produce more scholars.
