Good work by a Sturt patrol resulted in the arrest of a man carrying a quantity of stolen copper piping at Ascot Park on Saturday morning. At about 8.45am yesterday, the patrol was driving along Railway Terrace, Ascot Park when a cyclist passed them, heading in the opposite direction. The alert police officers allegedly noticed copper piping sticking out of the cyclists backpack. The 37-year-old Ascot Park man was stopped and his backpack searched. He was allegedly in possession of a substantial quantity of copper piping, a water meter and a tap head, believed to have been stolen. Police also located items including gloves, a torch, screwdrivers, a Stanley knife, tin snips and a socket wrench in the mans bag. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession and possess article to commit an offence. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
