Gooooooood Morning, Off to an early start. Busy busy busy. It is my goal to make this years 2nd Annual Dinner Dance a night to remember, as vividly as our lives shared. Bringing our community back together.... To reunite the spirits of those before us.... To preserve the on hand upbringing of the elders who molded and shaped our lives. To ensure that our children know of the history that only We can tell or it shall be LOST. For example: They may not know Pop Sidney but they should of heard him mentioned. They couldnt imagine the street we called The Alley. True Vine Church with the Davidsons and their children whom dedicated themselves to the US with Sunday School and choir. Who remembers our blue robes with big reds bows?. Made with loving living hands. I thank them again today. Have you told your children or grandchild about Smittys Store. The pickles on the counter...mary janes and squirrel nuts.. Lol. How about Portland High when the Albert and Walter Lee rocked the basketball team and Adam followed. The Buttrams men, the most athletic family I know. Anna and Dean Buttram where no joke either. Hell I wanted to be a strong althlete like Anna. Dean & Snooky spoiled me. I was playing spades like a professional by age 8 The Flood Family....getting tearful.... Whewwww whom also gave of themselves to us and LOVED us like their own. They had 14 children who were carbon copies who showered us with summer activities.. Their pool and much much more. To Ellen Flood...I love you. I remember you. I was five at the playground your kindness...you holding my hands pushing me on the swings and making pot holders. We didnt see color because your family was our family. I thank you today. I remember, I was pre teen when Redevelopment came buying everyone homes for prices no where worth their value for an industrial park. Promising our parents to sell for luxury apartments. Then read the HUD HOUSING posted in front of CC.. . I knew then they were puttering us in a new project. I was angry for my Uncle owned our home and other properties. Didnt understand our rent was in the $1000 and our neighbor paying $12.00. Then realized it was based on income. My Daddy a hardworking. incredibly talented businessman. .income was the reason. Thought to myself how do they save to get out. With 8 children. Sending us 5 girls to college and our 3 brothers to the service. I never returned after college....I would visit. Til this very day...my first stop is hugging Mrs Buttram. I get disappointed if I dont see her car.... I am going to schedule appointment with Historical Society. Thank yoy Robert McDougal for your rapid response. Love you too buddy...you too are apart of my fabric..K-12.. SO..... Please be kind enough to post your memories. Ask some elders for their recollections...see if ANYONE has pictures. I THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT. ♥ WEEBIT Patricia Weebit Hall- Jemison.
