Gordon market disaster: policeman stabbed Joy Kisselpar Nov 13, 2014-PNG Loop A young policeman is fighting for his life at the Port Moresby General Hospital after being stabbed by a man this afternoon at the Gordon market. The probationary constable attached to NCD Beat Unit was trying to board a PMV when he was stabbed in his back. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors cut into his chest to extract blood, caused by internal bleeding – a procedure which a female doctor said might have stabilised the wounded cop’s condition but they are keeping him under close observation. “He’s in a serious condition but he might recover because he’s young and strong,” the doctor said to this writer. After chatting with a colleague at the bus stop, the young constable from East Sepik was getting into a PMV bus when a man ran after him and plunged a knife into his back. The attacker threw away the knife and ran into the nearby Jade Island shop but was followed. He emerged minutes later and was trying to run off into the nearby Gordon Housing Corporation flats, when the wounded policeman’s colleague caught up with him. He wrestled the suspect to the ground and subdued him until a police patrol arrived. The suspect was then bundled into the police car and taken to the nearby Gordon Police Station. - See more at: pngloop/2014/11/13/gordon-market-disaster-policeman-stabbed/#sthash.IH7fdLkK.dpuf
