Got the chance to see Boyhood today in Bern, Switzerland--instantly one of my favorite movies of all time. Maybe top 3. For those who dont know, in 2002, director Richard Linklater cast an unknown, 5 year old boy, and cast Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as his parents. Linklater met with the cast and filmed for a few weeks each year, from the time the boy was 5 to the time he turned 18. Somehow, Linklater, who is in his 50s, managed to make a film that is, at once, timeless and authentically contemporary. The film captures the life of those growing up in the 90s and early 2000s with raw authenticity. Must, must see.
