Got to love this: Rob Ford’s Entire Transit Plan This is what you get when you throw a bunch of crayons at a poster board. Rob Ford’s transit plan, pegged at an absurdly low $9-billion, is a starry-eyed approach to transit-building based on notions of “MOAR SUBWAYZ” and putting everything underground, whether or not street-level traffic merits the expense. Ford proposes burying the aboveground eastern portion of the Eglinton Crosstown and building subways along Finch and Sheppard with no specifics on how it would happen, when or how. All we know is that Ford would not raise taxes, and instead rely on “funding mechanisms” such as development charges and begging the federal and provincial governments for money. While we’re telling fairy tales, how about dining cars on subway trains and drones that deliver your mail enroute? Hell, why not promise an 10% increase in rush hour capacity, too?
