Got to witness my first autopsy in clinical today. Nothing I was - TopicsExpress

Got to witness my first autopsy in clinical today. Nothing I was forced to do, but I wanted to because when was I ever get the chance in the future (and because I also wanted to be a coroner for a while). All in all, a good/informative/interesting experience, but I wouldnt recommend it for most people. It didnt really bother me, but some parts of it can be unnerving (like when cadavars organs are being extracted 6 inches away from you, or theyre using a loud saw to cut open the ribcage). Also, dont use Vicks or other menthols under your nose; that only opens up your nose/sinuses even more and lets EVERY odor molecule get stuck in there and STAY there (found that out the hard way). In fact, I can still smell (and taste) the decomp of a gas filled corpse hours after being in the same room with it. I dont mean to scare anyone away from witnessing one, just keep my story in mind before you do it. Oh yeah, and stay out of the pathogists and assistant(s)s way; they like their space and dont wanna be asked a zillion questions while theyre trying to work (they REALLY dont care that you like watching CSI). Anyways, none of us fainted, showed visible signs of panic, or walked out. What more can you ask for, right? :)
