Gouldian Season 3 month - Resting Period (Jun 1-Aug 31, males and females are separated) - Dry seed, millet and grass seed / Softfood / Calcium grit and charcoal - the goal during the resting period is to slim down and regain body strength. 1 month - Pre-Breeding Austere Diet (Sep 1-Sep 30, males and females are separated) - white and yellow millet (or similar low fat mix such as rye grass and Japanese millet. No other foods, no softfood, sprouted seed, calcium grit vitamins, fruits, vegatables or greens -simulate scarce nutritional resources, syncronizes breeding 1 month - Breeding Diet (Oct 1-Oct 31, males and females are separated) - rich breeding diet, dry seed mix of millets, grass seeds and oil seeds such as niger and lettuce, high quality softfood, sprouted seeds, along with calcium grit and charcoal, vitamins, fruits, veggies and greens. The Burst of nutrition results of the Wet Season. (I use Nekton S and Nexton E, 4 days on, 3 days off) 1 month - Pairing (Nov 1-Nov 31) continue on breeding diet. I put the males in their breeding cages for 2 weeks prior to the female. Let them know the cage and explore to gain confidence of his surroundings. Then introduce the female. If one week, they are sleeping on the same perch, then introduce the nest. 4 months - Breeding Season (Dec 1-March 31) continue on breeding diet. note that when the first egg is layed, stop all vitamins to ensure the male is not to enthusiastic to start a new clutch right away. Prevents male tossing the chicks. 2 months - Molting (April 1- May 31) 2 weeks I give nothing but seed and water to trigger molt. and then the 6 weeks I put on resting diet.
