Recently merged Office Depot and OfficeMax will setup a new global headquarters in Boca Raton, retaining 2,000 existing jobs and creating more. • The housing market has made a strong comeback and home sales continue to increase. Governor Scott is cutting taxes once again, but Charlie Crist hasn’t ruled out raising taxes if he’s elected. Under Charlie Crist, Florida lost 832,000 jobs, increased state debt by $5 billion, and had double-digit unemployment. • The reason why Florida is in the position to cut taxes and reduce debt, while also investing record amounts into education is simple: Governor Scott has been a responsible steward of the state, growing jobs and cutting government waste. Session Success: • Working with the legislature, Governor Scott was able to secure $500 million in tax cuts for Florida families this year. • $400 million in tax and fee cuts will go directly to Florida families by rolling back motor vehicle taxes and fees to pre‐2009 levels. In 2009, Floridians experienced significant increases in various taxes related to the annual registration of motor vehicles, increasing the cost of registering a motor vehicle by an average of 54 percent. • Governor Scott has righted Charlie Crist’s wrongs and as a result, $400 million is going back into the pockets of Florida families. • The $500 million in tax cuts also includes a sales tax holiday on back to school supplies, a sales tax holiday for hurricane preparedness supplies, • This budget also includes record funding for education, putting the total state-based investment at $18.89 billion, the highest level ever in Florida history for K-12. • In addition, Governor Scott is going to right another one of Charlie Crist’s wrongs and repeal the 15 percent tuition differential and make higher education more affordable for every student.
