Government functions like the post office should remain separate from private companies for many reasons. Why should USPS partner with Staples and not Office Depot? What happens if Staples closes a convenient store and USPS has already sold its old location? What happens if Staples goes into bankruptcy? Will the postmark still be legally binding as the date of filing income taxes (hint: FedEx and UPS are not)? I support keeping US Postal Workers as a corps of professionals and not outsourcing their jobs to the private sector.
