Government inaugurates fish feed mill at Prampram 2012 NDC manifesto promised to increase production of Aquaculture from 19,000 tonnes in 2011 to 100,000 tonnes in 2017.. • A $5 million fish feed mill with an installed capacity of 24,000 metric tonnes has been inaugurated at Prampram, near Tema. • This will help boost the aquaculture sector of the country. • This is the first in West Africa will apply the technology of producing floating extruded fish feed for tilapia and catfish. • It is currently producing between 1,000 and 1,400 tonnes of feed every month for both the local and the export markets. • The government has also set up an Aqua Culture Training Centre outside Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. • In collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, to impart knowledge on fish farming to backyard and small farmers. • A research centre has also been created for students at the KNUST in Kumasi to enable them to undertake scientific studies into aquaculture. • The project is a private/public partnership between the government of Ghana and Raanan Fish Feed West Africa, an Israeli company.
