Governor Jay Nixon gave a pusillanimous address at 5:30pm, - TopicsExpress

Governor Jay Nixon gave a pusillanimous address at 5:30pm, pleading for restraint in St Louis tonight. I must admit, Ive never felt compelled to use the word pusillanimous before. Its rare that a person can rise to a high office like governor with a characteristic like that. But he begged the people of St Louis... he met with members of clergy... he spoke of having counselors available, and churches staying up late at night serving food and drink to help people handle the shock of whatever happens. WHAT??? Can a community possibly, truly, be so weak of mind and soul that they would NEED comforting at the news that a policeman might or might not be indicted for an altercation with a drug-addled thug who just knocked over a convenience store? Im writing this before the news is announced.... I dont know at this point whether hell be indicted or not... All I know is that a rational governor - a governor who deserves the title and salary - would not have given that speech. Heres the speech that I would have given - the speech that any rational governor would have given - the speech that any of my conservative / tea party friends would give: Our legal system works. We have had members of your community, in careful deliberation for three months, considering and analyzing the evidence. Whatever they decide tonight, its based on a great deal more information than either you or I have to go by. We will - we must - honor and respect the grand jurys judgment, or we are not Americans. We expect there to be no riots,no caterwauling or looting, in either celebration OR anger.. Such things are crimes, and weve had far too much of them in recent months. Tonight, that crime spree ends. I have given instructions to our police force to defend the decent people of the metro area from thugs. Race and ethnicity play no role in this: we will defend the right of decent people, black or white, to walk and shop and do business in your neighborhoods. We will do so by prosecuting criminals to the utmost extent of the law. Effective immediately. Tonight there is a curfew. Tomorrow we return to being a peaceful American city, which it has not been for these past three hellish months. Our police are armed; our law-abiding citizens are armed as well. If thugs want to behave like ISIS terrorists in Iraq, we have plenty of room for them at the morgue. ----Sadly, Missouri doesnt have a rational governor. So Mr. Nixon just cried and pleaded, and reminded the voters of Missouri of how severely theyd screwed up by electing him.
