Governor McAuliffe recently signed a proclamation recognizing June as Great Outdoors Month in Virginia. He cited the economic impact of outdoor recreation in Virginia, estimated at more than $19 billion and supporting nearly 200,000 jobs. Page County is blessed with an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities-and one new one coming up September 27 is the inaugural MUDtoberfest. Sponsored by the Chamber, Luray Downtown Initiative, Bear Mountain Ziplines and Rope Adventure Park, the event is a combination trail run/mud run on one of two courses--either a tough 5K run or an easier 3K course. Both routes feature hills and obstacles, and parts of each course may be rocky and steep. Its a scenic course passing through the deep woods on and near Bear Mountain. Open to teams and individuals, the event includes free parking, race t-shirt, race patch, chip timing, awards in several categories, and the option of a post-race party for a separate fee.
